I am still a relatively new Star Wars fan. I’ve only been into the franchise for a little less than two years, when my husband realized I’d never seen the movies before and decided our next project was to watch all of them together. Blake has introduced many things to me in our time together — Nike shorts, most importantly — and he’s never steered me wrong.
Now, these movies are basically all I care about, and if something has Darth Vader on it, I buy it. It’s that simple.
It’s a really, really good time to be a Star Wars fan, especially since it’s become such a big part of my favorite place in the universe: Disney World. The land is being built, you can hug Chewy every time you visit Hollywood Studios, and last month, they offered up a very expensive, one night event, Star Wars Galactic Nights.
Was it as amazing as I’d hoped? Yes. Was it worth $120 each (after the passholder discount)? Yes. Would I go again? I would go every day of my life if I could. We left our house at 2 AM on Friday night, drove through the night, arrived around 9:30 AM, and hung out at Hollywood Studios until midnight. Oh, and then a little more than 24 hours later, we were back on the road, heading home. It was worth it. It was that good.
My fingers are crossed that this event is offered again in the future, but just in case it isn’t, here are some of my favorite parts of the night. ‘
There Were Droids Everywhere
While I was in the bathroom at the beginning of the night, Blake texted me and said “R2D2 is out here!” so obviously I finished up as quickly as I could and got back out there. Since Star Wars Celebration was happening in Orlando the same weekend, all kinds of awesome fans showed up with THESE DROIDS THEY BUILT THEMSELVES to take pictures and play with everyone. They were unreal.
Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster Went Star Wars For The Night
I am usually a huge fan of this ride in its normal, Aerosmith-themed version, but the Star Wars overlay was so cool. Instead of Steven Tyler, you heard music from the movie, and all the street signs were turned off in favor of projections that reminded me a lot of Space Mountain. The best part? This ride — and all the others, TBH — were practically walk ons all night long.
We Met BB8
He beeped at you in conversation. I am meeting him again next trip. I can’t deal.
And The Snacks Were Amazing
My favorite: This dark side churro that became a lightsaber for the event. Churros are my all time favorite Disney snack (well, besides Dole Whip) so this was a big deal.
AND C3PO WAS THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Of course, we totally didn’t realize who it was until after he was gone, but ANTHONY DANIELS. C3PO is my favorite Star Wars character ever, hands down, so I’m really glad we got to be there for this.
Now, I’m just counting down the days until Star Wars land opens. Will I be there on opening day? Yes. Will I probably regret that choice? Also yes.
